Thomas Ahrenkiel

Thomas heads our Europe Practice and brings a unique perspective on the political and economic trends prevailing in Europe. He served at the highest ranks of the Danish civil service for more than 25 years. 

He has held senior decision-making roles within the prime minister’s office, the Defence Ministry and Foreign Service. These positions include permanent secretary of state at the Ministry of Defence, director of the Danish Defence Intelligence Service, diplomatic adviser to the prime minister and chief European adviser in the prime minister’s office.

He previously worked in Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and represented the Danish government in a number of diplomatic roles, including in permanent missions to NATO and the EU.

Thomas holds a Cand.Polit. (master’s degree in economics) from the University of Copenhagen and a master’s degree in applied economics and international relations from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po).
