As a Senior Advisor, Douglas McNeill OBE focuses on the global economic outlook. Prior to joining MAP, Douglas was Chief Economic Adviser to the UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and also served as a special advisor to Prime Ministers Theresa May and Boris Johnson (2016-20) and to Mr Sunak as Chancellor of the Exchequer (2020-22).
His work in government included fiscal policy, trade and international economic relations and encompassed eight Budgets, seven Spring/Autumn Statements, and three general election campaigns, along with G20 summits, IMF meetings and FTA negotiations.
Before moving into government, Douglas spent two decades in the financial markets in London and Milan, most recently with Australian bank Macquarie, and was head of economic affairs at the Conservative Research Department when the party was in opposition. He has written on politics and economics for the Telegraph, the Times and the Financial Times and spoken about these subjects on the BBC, CNN and other broadcast channels.
Douglas is a graduate of Oxford, Edinburgh and Johns Hopkins universities, holds the diploma of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, and is a member of the Royal Economics Society, the Royal Institute of International Affairs (“Chatham House”) and the Society of Professional Economists. He was appointed to the Order of the British Empire earlier this year for political and public service.
