Gita is the chairman and founder of investment management company Ancora Group and Ancora Foundation. He is a visiting scholar at the Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center, where he is conducting research with Professor Donald Emmerson on the directionality of nation-building in Southeast Asia. 

Gita served as minister of trade of Indonesia, and chairman of the government’s Investment Coordinating Board. He previously had a career in investment banking at Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan, and served as commissioner of state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina.

He is commissioner of edtech platform Cakap and host of the podcast "Endgame." He was also chairman of the session at the World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference in 2013.

Gita holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Texas, Austin; an MBA from Baylor University, Texas and an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School as a Mason Fellow.
